At Cousin Louie’s, the goal was to create a sophisticated Italian-American dining experience that feels both elegant and approachable, blending timeless charm with modern style, all while ensuring a family-friendly atmosphere. Inspired by the client’s family restaurant in Virginia, the design aims to recreate nostalgic elements while incorporating upscale materials to elevate the dining experience without losing warmth.
This 4,000 square-foot space, once a fast-casual burger joint, underwent a complete renovation to meet both aesthetic and functional needs. Although the kitchen floor plan had to remain unchanged and the original fast-casual layout was preserved, the challenge was to transform the space into a refined yet comfortable environment. The design had to blend seamlessly with the existing structure, creating a cohesive flow throughout.
Detailed carpentry work was essential to bring warmth and texture into the space, with red oak wall panels and custom installations over the original walls. VCT floor tiles were selected to maintain the original floor height while offering durability and visual appeal. Marble countertops and dark-stained wood accents provided an elegant finish, enhancing the inviting atmosphere of the restaurant.
The resulting space successfully merges luxury with comfort, making it a place where families can enjoy exceptional food in a warm, upscale setting.
